ST. PETERSBURG, Russia—The government has issued new requirements to protect workers and other people that may come into contact with asbestos, bringing Russian law in line with international standards.
The rules, announced Sept. 7 by the federal agency for consumer rights protection (Rospotrebnadzor), require safety procedures to be followed in the production of chrysotile asbestos and asbestos-containing products. They set out procedures for construction, renovation, and demolition of buildings, railways, roads, and other facilities that contain asbestos.
Affected industries include mining, building construction, road construction, transportation, storage, and waste.
