Rubio Eyes 10-Year Offshore Gulf Drilling Ban in Defense Bill

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) plans to file an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act that would extend the ban on offshore drilling in the Eastern Gulf of Mexico for another decade, his spokesman said Tuesday.

The measure would lengthen the ban in the region for 10 years after the current moratorium expires in 2022. Sens. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) and Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.) are cosponsors of the amendment, Rubio spokesman Nick Iacovella said.
