Roundup Cancer Risk Isn’t From Active Ingredient, Study Says (1)

Glyphosate, the active ingredient in Roundup, doesn’t directly cause cancer according to a new study that suggests other ingredients in chemical mixture may be responsible for the increased risk of cancer linked with the weedkiller.

A team of federal and private sector researchers tested glyphosate and herbicide mixtures using glyphosate on cells, according to the study, published on Tuesday in Environmental and Molecular Mutagenesis.

They concluded neither glyphosate or a metabolite it forms damaged DNA, causing cancer, but that some ingredient in weedkillers containing glyphosate did. That finding is important, because a World Health Organization agency concluded in 2015 that ...
