Risk to Kids From Hartz Pet Collars ‘Unacceptable,’ EPA Says

The EPA is preparing to cancel six pet collars to kill fleas and ticks made by Hartz Mountain Corp., but will consider new information the company plans to submit before making a final decision, the agency said Wednesday.

The Environmental Protection Agency found “unacceptable risks” for children exposed to pet collars containing tetrachlorvinphos (TCVP), the agency said in a court-ordered response to a 2009 petition asking the agency to ban the pesticides’ uses on pets.
