Rhode Island Could Become First State With 100% Renewable Power

Rhode Island will rely 100% on renewable energy by the end of the decade, Gov. Gina Raimondo (D) ordered Friday.

Rhode Island’s energy mix includes nearly one-third from renewable sources and increasing this to 100% by 2030 is a “bold but achievable goal,” Raimondo said.

Her executive order directs the state Office of Energy Resources to study how to reach it. If it does, Rhode Island could be the first state to be powered completely by renewable energy.
