Residential Construction Will Harm Virginia Wetlands, Group Says

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers should be forced to temporarily revoke a construction permit that would allow a residential development to fill Virginia wetlands while a lawsuit over the permit’s legality proceeds, the Back Bay Restoration Foundation told a federal court June 21.

Located in Virginia Beach, Va., Back Bay has been named an “aquatic resource of national importance” by the Corps and the Fish and Wildlife Service and is part of the Albemarle-Pamlico Estuarine Sound, which the EPA considers to be an “estuary of national significance,” Back Bay Restoration Foundation said in its motion for a preliminary injunction. ...
