Republic Steel to Pay Nearly $1 Million to Settle Air Violations

December 2, 2022, 3:21 PM UTC

The Department of Justice and the Environmental Protection Agency have proposed a $990,000 settlement with Republic Steel to resolve alleged Clear Air Act violations in Canton, Ohio, according to DOJ Friday.

The steel manufacturer allegedly caused lead levels in the surrounding air to surpass the National Ambient Air Quality Standards for lead, said the agency.

Under the consent decree, the company is required to implement new control technologies at its Flexcast Vacuum Tank Degasser and cooling tower to reduce lead emissions, DOJ said.
