Israel’s hazardous waste disposal industry is in “financial crisis” due to broad structural and regulatory failures, according to a new study conducted for the Environmental Protection Ministry.
The report recommends sectorwide restructuring that would open it to more competition and privatize much of the state-owned Environmental Services Company (ESC).
Both the ministry and ESC have reviewed the report, prepared by consultancy BDO Ziv Haft for the Environmental Protection Ministry, a spokesmen for the two government agencies told Bloomberg BNA May 28. Their conclusions “are expected to be completed within several weeks,” the ministry spokesman said.
