Grease Remover Too Risky for Workers, Consumers, EPA Says (2)

The solvent 1-bromopropane will have to be restricted because the chemical poses too great a chance of injuring workers and consumers, the EPA said Tuesday.

The Environmental Protection Agency released its final conclusions about the solvent’s potential to pose an unreasonable risk. The release drew criticism from an attorney representing environmental, health, and labor groups, who said 1-bromopropane is a greater public health risk than the agency concluded.

The 1-BP analysis is the second among a batch of 10 chemical risk evaluations the EPA has been working on since 2016 to comply with that year’s Toxic Substances Control Act amendments. ...
