Recycling Coalition Seeks to Stop California Permitting Rule

Scrap metal facilities want to stop California from possibly requiring operations that recycle cars, household appliances, and other items obtain hazardous waste permits from the state.

The West Coast Chapter of the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries Inc. and other groups filed a lawsuit in Sacramento County Superior Court Nov. 26. The groups said the Department of Toxic Substances Control could undermine the scrap recycling industry and lead to abandoned items in vacant lots, along roadways, and in neighborhoods.
