Quest Diagnostics Settles California Waste Claims for $4 Million

Quest Diagnostics Inc. reached a nearly $5 million settlement to resolve claims that the company mishandled medical waste, hazardous waste, and patient information at California facilities.

The settlement, filed Tuesday in San Joaquin County Superior Court, requires Quest Diagnostics and other related laboratory companies named as defendants to pay California about $4 million in civil penalties, as well as $700,000 in attorneys’ fees and other costs and $300,000 for projects that support environmental training and enforcement, according to a statement issued Wednesday.
