Quebec Blocks $7.2 Billion LNG Project, Puts Pipeline in Limbo

A Canadian province blocked a C$9 billion ($7.16 billion) liquefied natural gas export facility on Wednesday over concerns the project would slow the transition to cleaner fuels.

Quebec wouldn’t provide the Energie Saguenay project with the permits it needs to proceed to construction because the company behind the project couldn’t show it would be able to mitigate negative environmental impacts, Benoit Charette, minister for the environment and the fight against climate change, said at a news conference.
