Puerto Rican Agency Gets Sued for Superfund Site Cleanup Costs

A Puerto Rican government agency and two Puerto Rican manufacturing companies should help pay to clean up the PROTECO Superfund site in Peñuelas, a group of companies that have already been held liable for response costs said in a lawsuit.

The members of the PROTECO Landfill Superfund Site Generator Parties Group say they have contributed $4 million for a remedial investigation of PROTECO, which was used as a landfill in Southern Puerto Rico from 1975 to 1999.
