Products Containing PFOA Need Warnings, California Agency Says

A California health agency said Friday it plans to add perfluorooctanoic acid, or PFOA, to a list of chemicals that require warnings if consumers may be exposed to them.

PFOA, which can cause cancer, will be listed under the state’s Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, also known as Proposition 65, the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment said.

The decision to list it as a carcinogen is based on a 2020 report from the National Toxicology Program, the agency said.
