President Joe Biden on Friday strengthened an environmental justice executive order that was virtually untouched since the Clinton era by directing all federal agencies to make equity a core issue in their missions.
The new order, Revitalizing Our Nation’s Commitment to Environmental Justice for All, also directs the Environmental Protection Agency and other agencies to focus on disproportionate impacts to low-income and other disadvantaged communities.
Those agency actions must address cumulative impacts of pollution and climate change, according to a White House fact sheet.
