Power Sector Not Ready for Clean Energy Shift, Nextera CEO Says

NextEra Energy Inc. Chief Executive Officer James Robo says the power sector hasn’t fully prepared for the ways that wind and solar combined with batteries will change the industry.

Technological advances in clean energy and storage will make them cheaper to build than it costs to keep existing coal and nuclear generators running, Robo said Oct. 3 during a presentation at the Wolfe Research Utilities and Energy Conference in New York. That will create “massive disruption,” he said.

“The reality is, this industry has always been slow to react to technology change,” Robo said.
