Power grids in much of North America will face potential supply shortfalls this winter if weather becomes severe enough, according to a US regulatory agency.
Electricity grids are “at risk of having insufficient energy supplies” based on projections for high peak demand, inadequate weatherization of power plants, fuel supply risks and limited natural gas infrastructure, the North American Electric Reliability Corporation said in an advisory on Wednesday.
The agency, which sets standards for grids across the US, Canada and parts of Mexico, will release its winter assessment on Nov. 17 detailing the risks. A NERC spokeswoman declined to comment on ...
