Pool Pump Energy Conservation Rule Draws Manufacturer’s Appeal

A pool equipment company is challenging the Energy Department’s decision to adopt amended energy conservation standards for dedicated-purpose pool pump motors.

The Energy Department “misapplied relevant standards, contradicted itself, ignored important aspects of the problem, and failed to respond to serious objections,” Zodiac Pool Systems LLC told the US Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit on Wednesday.

The company argued the Energy Policy and Conservation Act establishes energy conservation standards for different consumer products and industrial equipment, but that doesn’t include definite purpose motors such as the pool pump.
