WARSAW—Poland’s largest power producer has scrapped plans to construct a large-scale carbon capture and storage (CCS) project due to a shortage of funds, among other reasons, a spokeswoman told BNA May 2.
“The management board of Polska Grupa Energetyczna (PGE) made the decision about closure of the construction of a CCS demonstration facility,” Beata Nawrot-Miler said, without specifying the additional reasons.
The European Commission had approved a CCS project to be built at Belchatow in central Poland by 2015 or 2016. PGE, Poland’s largest electricity producer, received €180 million ($235 million) from the Commission for the project in 2010, but ...
