Poland Aims to Meet EU Emissions Standards For Sulfur Dioxide, Nitrogen Oxides by 2015

WARSAW—Poland hopes to meet EU standards for emissions of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides by 2015 with the help of a law expected to take effect in 2012, Environment Minister Andrzej Kraszewski said Aug. 5.

The Council of Ministers Aug. 2 approved draft legislation to limit the air pollutants. If approved by Parliament this fall as expected, the measure would take effect Jan. 1, 2012.

Under the draft, the KOBIZE office, which monitors industrial plants’ carbon dioxide emissions, would also be in charge of checking emissions of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides.
