Pfizer Subsidiary Faces $74 Million Cleanup of New Jersey Toxic Site

Enough acid tar and chemicals to fill nearly 17 Olympic-size swimming pools will be removed from a New Jersey floodplain in a proposed $74 million cleanup of the American Cyanamid Superfund site in Bridgewater Township.

The proposal would remove 55,000 cubic yards of material in the final portion of a former chemical manufacturing site in north-central New Jersey, which has been the subject of cleanup efforts since 1983. The remediation would help keep toxic sediment and other pollutants from reaching the Raritan River and protect the 45,000
