A grassroots organization and an environmental law clinic are asking the United Nations to investigate alleged human rights violations from PFAS as part of an effort to stop the Chemours Co.'s requested expansion of its Fayetteville, N.C., factory.

The UN Human Rights Commission should investigate to ensure local residents have access to clean water and are evaluated to determine whether their health has been harmed by per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) released by the site, said the organization and clinic in a petition sent on Thursday to the UN Special Rapporteur on toxics and human rights, Marcos A.
