LIMA, Peru—Peru’s Environment Ministry has unveiled a program to conserve 134 million acres of primary forests as part of a national strategy to combat climate change.
The 10-year National Program for Forest Conservation to Mitigate Climate Change was published through Executive Order 008-2010-MINAM on July 15. The program’s three objectives are to identify and map areas for conservation, to foster sustainable production, and to strengthen capacities for forest management among local governments and native communities.
