Peru to Phase Out Single-Use Plastics Under Bill Approved by Congress

Production and distribution of single-use plastics and polyethylene products in Peru will be phased out in the coming three years.

Peru’s Congress late Nov. 5 unanimously approved a combination of 23 bills presented in the past 18 months to control the use of plastics, joining a growing list of countries with legislation to control or prohibit single-use plastics. Its southern neighbor Chile approved legislation earlier this year that bans use of single-use plastic bags.

Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra is expected to sign the measure.
