Pentagon Orders Focus on PFAS Treatment as Final EPA Rules Near

Military sites that remove PFAS from Department of Defense-owned drinking water systems must comply with state or local PFAS standards if those are more stringent than the Pentagon’s guidance, ordered one of three recent DoD memos.

Brendan Owens, assistant secretary of defense for energy, installations, and environment, recently issued three memorandums urging military and National Guard bases to boost their efforts to manage or destroy per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in the expectation of coming Environmental Protection Agency regulations.
