Pentagon Climate Investments Would Get $3.1 Billion in Budget

The Pentagon would receive $3.1 billion in climate investments in an attempt to turn the military into a significantly more energy-efficient fighting force under President Joe Biden’s fiscal 2023 budget request.

The Defense Department’s efforts to green its operations are especially significant because the Pentagon is the federal government’s biggest energy consumer and one of the biggest in the world.

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said in a statement that the requested funds are aimed at “bolstering our installation resiliency and adaptation to climate challenges.”
