The Interior Department is approving a proposal to build the Casa Diablo IV geothermal power plant in California with a capacity to generate 33 megawatts of power, Interior Secretary Sally Jewell announced Aug. 13.
The project was proposed by a subsidiary of Ormat Technologies Inc., a geothermal energy specialist, for a site near Mammoth Lakes in Mono County, Calif., close to where three other geothermal plants have been built.
Jewell announced the decision at the National Clean Energy Summit in Las Vegas to illustrate the determination of the Obama administration to increase renewable energy generation on federal lands.
