Opponents Prep Response to 80-Mile Utah Oil Railway Plan

Environmental groups plan to make their concerns known to a federal transportation agency about a proposed 80-mile railway to transport crude oil from the Uinta Basin in eastern Utah that could result in a quadrupling of oil production in the region.

Given that the construction and operation of the Uinta Basin Railway has the potential to result in significant environmental impacts, the U.S. Surface Transportation Board said it is preparing an analysis for the project under the National Environmental Policy Act. The public scoping period ends Aug. 3.
