Oklo Denied License by NRC for Advanced Nuclear Reactor Design

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission has denied Oklo Inc.’s application to build and operate an advanced nuclear reactor, saying the company failed to provide several key details.

The agency said Oklo is free to reapply for a license for its Aurora reactor design, according to a statement Thursday.

The decision is a setback for the company’s efforts to promote a new generation of nuclear technology, using smaller reactors that supporters say would be faster and cheaper to build.
