Oil Spill Victims File Class Action Against BP, Allege RICO Violations

HOUSTON—Attorneys representing a group of oil spill victims Jan. 24 filed a consolidated class action complaint in federal court alleging that BP broke civil racketeering law by engaging in unlawful conduct that caused the Macondo well blowout in the Gulf of Mexico and resulted in one of the largest environmental and economic catastrophes in U.S. history (In re Oil Spill by the Oil Rig “Deepwater Horizon” in the Gulf of Mexico on April 20, 2010).
