Oil, Gas Producer to Disclose All Chemicals Used in Hydraulic Fracturing

Oil and gas producer Baker Hughes of Houston has said it will disclose all of the chemical ingredients it uses in hydraulic fracturing, including chemicals it had previously shielded as trade secrets.

However, a company spokeswoman told Bloomberg BNA April 25 that it won’t reveal the precise chemical formulas it follows in creating hydraulic fracturing fluids.

“Baker Hughes believes it is possible to disclose 100% of the chemical ingredients we use in hydraulic fracturing fluids without compromising our formulations—a balance that increases public trust while encouraging commercial innovation,” Melanie Kania, spokeswoman for the company in Houston, told Bloomberg BNA.
