The US government will sell offshore wind leases in the Gulf of Maine next month — a first-of-its-kind auction set to make new territory available for commercial energy development near Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine.
- Eight lease areas spanning 850,082 acres will be up for grabs in the Oct. 29 auction, the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management said in a notice Monday
- If fully developed, the lease areas have a potential capacity of approximately 13 gigawatts of offshore wind energy, the agency said
