Offshore Driller Cox Sues for $225 Million Over Oil Tanker Crash

Offshore driller Cox Operating LLC sued the owner and manager of an oil tanker for more than $225 million after the ship allegedly rammed into a Cox platform off Louisiana last weekend.

The Suezmax vessel, M/V Atina, drifted off anchorage in the Gulf of Mexico on Saturday morning and “forcefully” struck the northwest corner of the platform, causing significant damage, the Dallas-based oil producer claims in the suit, filed Sunday in U.S. federal court in New Orleans. The production facility is currently unable to operate, Cox claims.
