NYC Gas Power Plant to Close, Reopen as Clean Energy Hub (1)

The owner of a natural gas-fired power plant in Queens plans to close the facility and transform it into a clean-energy transmission and storage hub.

Rise Light & Power plans to file applications this year with state regulators to redevelop the Ravenswood Generating Station, according to a statement. The company didn’t say when the plant will close.

Rise is negotiating with offshore wind and upstate clean energy developers on transmission and partnership agreements, Chief Executive Officer Clint Plummer said in an interview Tuesday.
