New York to Be First State to Ban Gas in New Buildings (1)

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) said she has reached an agreement with the legislature to ban fossil fuels in all new buildings throughout the state in a deal that would be the first of its kind in the US.

The new zero-emission requirements will be included in the fiscal 2024 state budget. Hochul announced the agreement Thursday.

The ban would start in 2025 for small buildings and 2028 for large ones, Hochul said during a press conference.
