The New York State and New York City bar associations are urging Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) to sign off on a bill that would scrap a century-old law requiring lawyers who practice in New York to have a physical law office in the state.
Technology and remote work have changed the legal landscape, and attorneys no longer need to maintain physical offices to practice in the state, the heads of both associations said in a joint press statement. The associations issued a joint letter urging Hochul to sign the bill into law.
