Nuclear Power Tax Credit Extension Bill Passes House

The House passed a bill June 20 that would extend a nuclear power production tax credit pursued by the energy industry.

The bill (H.R. 1551) allows nuclear power facilities under construction to claim unused production tax credits, which under current law can only be used by facilities operational by Dec. 31, 2020. The bill passed under suspension of House rules, which is generally reserved for noncontroversial legislation.

The legislation is seen as a boon to Scana Corp. and Southern Co., which have four reactors under construction in Georgia and South Carolina that could qualify for the credit. The ...
