Norway’s State-Owned Oil Company Fined $1.6 Million for Illegal Wastewater Discharge

The Norwegian state prosecutor has fined the state-owned oil company Statoil 10 million kroner ($1.6 million) for illegally discharging wastewater into the sea.

The fine is one of the highest penalties ever for a violation of the country’s pollution laws, Environment Agency Senior Legal Adviser Anette Fischer told Bloomberg BNA Nov. 8.
