Northrop Grumman Can Continue Cleanup Plan for Long Island Park

Northrop Grumman escaped a court order to immediately remove soil contaminated with hazardous waste after a federal judge determined the aerospace giant’s temporary remediation plan to rebury potentially dangerous plots won’t complicate the ultimate cleanup of the Long Island park.

The Town of Oyster Bay, N.Y., failed to establish irreparable harm from the company’s short-term plan, as Bethpage Community Park will remain closed to the public while Northrop Grumman excavates and re-buries a significant portion of the soil contaminated with polychlorinated biphenyl, the US District Court for the Eastern District of New York ruled Monday.
