Northern Star Fined $600,000 for Hazardous Materials Violations

Northern Star (Pogo) LLC faces a fine of $600,000 and has been cited for 81 violations of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act at a gold mine and laboratory in Delta Junction, Ala., according to EPA Tuesday.

Included in the violations is disposal of over 350,000 tons of waste without proper treatment, failure to determine if waste from lab testings was hazardous, and treatment, storage, and disposal of hazardous waste without a permit.
