North Dakota Sues Feds Over Suspension of Oil Lease Sales

North Dakota sued the Interior Department and Bureau of Land Management on Wednesday, alleging the agencies wrongfully initiated a moratorium on federal oil-and-gas-lease sales, jeopardizing a key component of the state’s economy.

North Dakota says the Mineral Leasing Act requires lease sales to be held for the states at least quarterly and that the federal agencies “have failed to comply with this mandatory statutory duty and have indicated that they intend to continue to do so for an indefinite period.”
