North Carolina denied a water quality certification needed to build an extension of the Mountain Valley Pipeline into the state.
The state Department of Environmental Quality announced Tuesday that it was denying the certification and an associated buffer authorization because of the uncertainty surrounding the natural gas project. Several permits associated with the main line have been suspended or are in litigation, the department said in a letter to developers.
