Norfolk, General Atomics to Pay $88 Million for Superfund Site

A General Atomics Aeronautical Systems Inc. unit and Norfolk Southern Railway Co. agreed on Monday to pay $88 million to reimburse cleanup costs at a Superfund site in St. Louis, Mo.

Cotter Corp. and Norfolk Southern entered a settlement under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act for remedial work on a site contaminated with uranium, thorium, and radium. The federal government’s complaint and the proposed consent decreeto settle its claims were concurrently filed in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri.
