Allied Waste Niagara Falls Landfill LLC is set to pay the Environmental Protection Agency a $671,000 Clean Air Act penalty for allegedly failing to comply with landfill gas emissions, after a federal judge approved the deal.
The US sued the landfill in January, claiming that it didn’t meet standards requiring it to have an EPA-approved gas collection and control system plan. It also failed to submit a non-methane emissions rate report containing an estimate for the landfill’s emissions, the suit said.
