New York’s Green New Deal to Become Law (Corrected)

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) is expected today to sign into law his state’s own Green New Deal—a climate action plan more than tripling the state’s solar capacity and boosting wind power.

  • The legislation passed in June by the state Senate and Assembly sets the most aggressive clean-energy targets in the country—even ahead of progressive California, which is aiming for 100% clean power by 2045. The law codifies the state’s goal of getting all of its electricity from emission-free sources by 2040 and an 85% reduction in economywide emissions from 1990 levels by 2050.
