New Yorkers to Vote on $4.2 Billion Environmental Bond (1)

New York will put a $4.2 billion environmental bond act on the ballot in November—$1.2 billion more than lawmakers originally proposed.

The state’s $220 billion budget for fiscal 2023 includes the ballot initiative, increased from the $3 billion originally planned, according to a budget bill (S.8008C/A.9008C) released Friday.

Money from the “Clean Water, Clean Air, and Green Jobs Environmental Bond Act of 2022” would go toward land conservation; flood risk reduction; climate change mitigation; water quality improvement and resilient infrastructure; helping disadvantaged communities; and green building projects for state-owned properties or public schools, among other things.
