Hotels in New York State won’t allowed to distribute single-use plastic shampoo and lotion bottles to guests starting in 2025, under legislation signed by Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) on Thursday.
The measure (S.543/A.5082) applies to bottles with a capacity of less than 12 ounces that contain personal care products such as moisturizers and cleansers.
The measure originally was sent to take effect in January 2024 at hotels with 50 rooms or more, and in 2025 for smaller hotels, but Hochul took issue with the timing citing current upheavals in the global supply chain.
