New York Moves to Ban Forever Chemicals in Clothing by 2024

New York is moving to ban the sale of clothing containing PFAS, a group of “forever chemicals” that have been linked to cancer, under legislation headed to Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) for her consideration.

The measure (A.7063A/S.6291A) would prohibit the use of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, or PFAS, in apparel, as well as the sale of items containing the chemical starting Dec. 31, 2023.
