New York Mayor Calls on National Grid to Halt Gas Expansion (1)

New York Mayor Bill de Blasio is calling on National Grid Plc to halt the expansion of a controversial natural gas main that’s about to go into service in the city.

“National Grid has failed to clearly demonstrate that this pipeline is needed,” de Blasio said in a statement Thursday.

The company has said its Metropolitan Natural Gas Reliability Project, which would not introduce new gas into the city, would increase its gas system’s safety, reliability, and operational flexibility.
