New York Bans Burning of PFAS Foam in Upstate Community (1)

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Monday night signed legislation banning the burning of toxic firefighting foam containing PFAS in the small upstate community of Cohoes.

The measure (A.9952B/S.7880B), which takes effect immediately, prohibits burning aqueous film-forming foam, known as AFFF, and associated perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances, known as PFAS. It applies to the Albany County city, the location of an incinerator owned by Norlite LLC, which accepted the foam waste for two years through the end of 2019.
